NEWBURY — Chief Dave Evans reports that the Newbury Fire Department responded to a livestock shed fire on Sunday afternoon.
On Sunday, March 10, at approximately 4:30 p.m., the Newbury Fire Department was notified of a fire in a livestock shed at 20 Fruit St.
Engine 2 and Car 4 arrived to find an approximately 10 by 10 foot livestock shed fully involved in fire. Three goats that live in the shed escaped unharmed.
Companies stretched a hose line and were able to knock the fire down quickly. Overhaul was required to get all the fire out of hay on the floor.
There were no reported injuries.
The livestock shed was a total loss but the three goats will be staying in another shed on the property.
Firefighters from Rowley and Newburyport provided mutual aid at the scene, and firefighters from Georgetown covered the Byfield Fire Station.
The cause of the fire appears to be accidental, but remains under investigation by the Newbury Fire Department.
“Companies were able to knock this fire down quickly and did a great job keeping it all in one spot,” said Chief Evans.
