NEWBURY — Fire Chief David Evans and Police Chief Patricia Fisher report that the Newbury Fire and Police Departments are responding to the scene of a water rescue.
At 6:41 p.m. Thursday, Newbury fire and police were dispatched to the Parker River, in the area of Forest and River streets, for a report of a male party stuck in the rapid-moving, high-water current. A bystander tried to enter the river to reach the man, but could not do so. That bystander was treated and released.
Northeast Ambulance, Atlantic Ambulance, Cataldo Ambulance, Cataldo Rehab, West Newbury Fire, Georgetown Fire, Merrimac Fire, Lawrence Fire, the Massachusetts State Police Air Wing, the Massachusetts Environmental Police and the Beverly Fire Dive/Rescue Team are providing mutual aid.
The scene remains active at this time. People are asked to avoid the area.
