On Tuesday, June 26, five Newbury Elementary School students got a special ride to their last day of classes. They arrived in style on one of the Newbury Fire Department’s engines.
Chief Douglas Janvrin, in Engine 9, and firefighter Ed Donnelly, in Ladder 3, picked up the group at Riverview Drive for the 10-minute ride to school. The students won the ride through a raffle held at the school’s end of the year celebration.
As the trucks pulled into Newbury Elementary, Chief Janvrin and firefighter Donnelly flashed the lights, inciting excitement from the group and students who were outside.
“It’s always great to be able to give back to the community in a fun way,” Chief Janvrin said. “We participate in raffles like these several times a year and it’s great to see students so excited, not only about the ride, but about what the fire department does as a whole.”
